Diamond Quest Results!

Last week, Diamond Quest came and went.  There was a strong field of ten who came that night.  Matt Simon came into the night, seeking to make him the first person ever to win the Diamond for a fourth time.  Bode Bojangles was also there, on a mission.  He basically told Iris (who had challenged him for the Yellow Opal, MoonBeryl) that he wouldn't have the Opal at the end of the night.  Coming in, as well, was former Diamond Ria Graziano.  Tareth came in, seeking the only title that has thus far eluded him.  Kheldar and Tical rounded out the infamous (and some say, dangerous) "Crew" contingent.  Anubis, Tim, Xerzes and Dom were also on hand, hopeful the night would go their way.

The first round saw top seed meet last seed in the first "Crew" match of the night.  Tareth met Bode to see who would drop to the bottom bracket.  After 11 long rounds, Bode pulled it out to stay on top.  Anubis met Ria, and in 6 short rounds, she became the first loss of the night.  Kheld took on Tim, and the Crew member prevailed, bringing the tally to two strong hopefuls.  Tical lost a close match to Xerzes in this first round, sending him down with Ria.  Matt and Dom faced off, and in the longest duel of the first round, the three-time Diamond moved on to the second round with a win.

Five people were in each bracket of the second round, which left two byes.  Anubis had his bye for the winners' bracket, while Tareth got the bye as top seed of the losers'.  This left Bode against Kheld in another matchup of the Crew, and Bode again took the win, this time in very dominating fashion.  Xerzes and Matt met to see who the other winner would be, and Matt took care of his opponent in 9 rounds, though it wasn't close.  Ria found herself facing Tim in this second round, and after 10 rounds, she was eliminated from competition.  Tic also faced elimination, but he beat Dom in 9 rounds to move on.

In the third round, there were more byes to be had.  Matt received his this round, watching as Bode and Anubis duked it out.  Bode would again rule the ring, sending Anubis down after 8 rounds.  Kheld received a bye in the losers' bracket, taking his break as two more Crew members were eliminated from competition.  Tim took care of Tical in 7 short rounds, and Xerzes knocked Tareth out in the same number.

The fourth round saw Matt against Bode, in the winners' bracket finals.  The person who won this duel would get a direct pass to the last matches of the night.  Again, Bode dominated, sending him past go and directly to the final round.  There were no byes in the losers' bracket, as Tim met Xerzes and Kheld met Anubis.  The scores and number of rounds were identical, and dominating.  When the dust settled, both Tim and another Crew member (Kheld) were eliminated.

The fifth round gave another bye, this time to Xerzes.  He watched as Matt and Anubis stepped in the ring, and would face the winner of this match to see who met Bode.  It only took 6 rounds, but in the end, it was assured there would be a first-time holder of the Diamond this cycle.  Matt was eliminated, 5-2.

Bode kept resting, as Xerzes and Anubis met in the ring for the sixth round.  Whoever won this would face the hot dueler, and have to beat him not once but twice.  The battle was long, and close, but in the end, Xerzes proved himself and knocked out the slaver.

Bode and Xerzes had a few minutes before getting in the ring for the finals.  In order to win the Diamond, Xerzes would have to beat Bode twice.  It turned out, Bode would remain red-hot and the second duel would not be needed.  Ten rounds, and Bode secured the Diamond.

With Bode's ascension to Diamond, MoonBeryl is now without a holder.  The Yellow Opal will be claimed in an upcoming tournament.

Congratulations Bode, and thank you everyone for attending!  A special thanks to both Court and Sarah for officiating!
